    Beginner 1A Course

    Welcome Students!

    • This is where you will find access to additional information about your course as well as supplementary course materials, assignments, and resources. You will also be able to obtain course grades, individual student evaluations, participate in class forums and discussions and fill out course surveys.

    Instructors:

    • All AMIDEAST's English language teachers are listed in a column to the right. Check your schedule to verify the name of your teacher. 

    Description:

    • This 40-hour course will develop your English language and critical thinking skills at a beginner (A1) level through practice of the four skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - as well as through grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation exercises. Students will explore contemporary topics within an interactive environment that provides many opportunities to practice real-world communication. 

    Course Objectives:

    • In this class, you will increase your understanding and use of common structures in English at an beginner (A1) level, such as: the verb to be, simple present tense, prepositions of time, frequency adverbs, imperative forms, past tense, and the present continuous tense. You will also increase your ability to communicate naturally to talk about your family, friends, and partner, activities in different seasons, routines, dates and events, your family's past, and special weekends.  

    Student Assessment:

    • You will be evaluated in a variety of ways throughout the course and receive feedback from the teacher to help you continue to improve your English language skills. Student assessment is based on the following criteria, on a scale of 100%. The passing grade is 70%. 

    Attendance Policy:

    • Students cannot miss more than 8 hours (20%) of class time in order to pass the course. Late arrivals are counted towards the 8-hour limit. 

    AMIDEAST Policies:

    • All handouts, documents, presentations are the Intellectual Property Rights of AMIDEAST and the class instructors.  These materials are for your own personal use and should not be shared or reproduced on any public platform.
    • Students are encouraged to cooperate with each other and show respect and courtesy towards the teacher and other participants.
    • Be prepared to participate in class activities.
    • Make sure to have your class textbook with you for every class session.
    • Complete all home assignments before class. (This helps ensure you progress rapidly.) 

    AMIDEAST Classroom Policies:

    • Students are expected to come to class on time.
    • Mobile phones should be put on silent mode.
    • No food is allowed in AMIDEAST classrooms and labs.
    • Break time is 10 minutes for two-hour classes, 15 minutes for three-hour classes. 

    AMIDEAST Virtual Classroom Policies:

    • Students should log onto the virtual classroom at least 15 minutes before class to take care of any connection issues.
    • Students should join the class with camera, microphone and audio capabilities.
    • Students should keep their microphones muted, unless they want to make a comment or ask a question.
