    Conversation English 3

    Textbook: Skillful Listening & Speaking 3 (Units 1-5)

    Learning Outcomes:

    By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

    Listening:

    1-     listen for main ideas and details;

    2-     follow a clearly structured lecture/ presentation/ report on a familiar subject and take notes on points which strike them as important;

    3-     follow the essentials of lectures, talks and reports and other forms of academic/professional presentation: examples, reasons and explanations, sequence of events, similarities and differences and supporting statements;

    4-     identify speaker viewpoints and attitudes in different contexts: rhetoric questions, bias, and distinguishing facts and opinions;

    5-     listen to summarize listening texts;

    Speaking:

    6-     engage in extended conversation on most general topics in a clearly participatory fashion;

    7-     account for and sustain their opinions in discussion by providing relevant explanations, arguments and comments;

    8-     take an active part in informal discussions by expressing interest in the ideas that they hear;

    9-     share a self-introduction;

    10- express ideas clearly and convincingly by giving examples;

    11- present inventions and their pros and cons;

    12- support their ideas by providing relevant reasons and explanations;

    13- discuss the results of an experiment;

    14- change the topic and return to it in a conversation;

    15- debate topics;

    16- intervene appropriately in a lecture or discussion, exploiting appropriate language, to interrupt politely.

    AMIDEAST Policy

    • Participants are expected to come to class on time
    • Mobile phones should be put on silent mode.
    • No food or drink is allowed in AMIDEAST classrooms & labs.
    • Break time is 15 minutes.
    • No make-up quizzes are to be held. Absence due to an emergency situation is to be handled by the instructor on an individual basis. Trainees are to provide documentation for the emergency situation.
    • Passing grade is 70%.
    • Course evaluations are done on the 5th session. 
    • Participants are encouraged to cooperate with each other and show respect and courtesy towards the instructor & other participants.
