    Textbook: Skillful Listening & Speaking 3 (Units 5-10)

    Learning Outcomes:

    By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

    Listening:

    1-      understand a clearly structured lecture/ presentation/ report and take notes.

    2-      follow extended and somewhat complex forms of academic/professional presentations, talks and/or report in order to categorize information, understand cause and effect relationships, and identify problems and solutions.

    3-      use prior knowledge to predict the content of a presentation

    4-      interpret the speaker’s viewpoints and attitudes in different contexts

    5-      recognize essential language forms used in academic/ professional contexts by listening to understand structure signals that connect ideas, follow the organization, infer vocabulary meaning from context and recognize definitions.

    Speaking:

    6-      initiate, maintain and end discourse appropriately with effective turn-taking

    7-      contribute, account for and sustain his/her opinions, evaluate alternative proposals and make and respond to hypotheses.

    8-      ask to clarify and confirm ideas they hear

    9-      discuss research findings and applications

    10-  contribute additional information to a discussion

    11-  hold discussions on water issues

    12-  make repairs to their mistakes while speaking

    13-  compare and present personal and community values

    14-  field questions during a presentation

    15-   plan and present design ideas for a public place

    16-  Paraphrase and describe unfamiliar words

    17-  give a presentation about future problems

    AMIDEAST Policy

    • Participants are expected to come to class on time
    • Mobile phones should be put on silent mode.
    • No food or drink is allowed in AMIDEAST classrooms & labs.
    • Break time is 15 minutes.
    • No make-up quizzes are to be held. Absence due to an emergency situation is to be handled by the instructor on an individual basis. Trainees are to provide documentation for the emergency situation.
    • Passing grade is 70%.
    • Course evaluations are done on the 5th session. 
    • Participants are encouraged to cooperate with each other and show respect and courtesy towards the instructor & other participants.
