    Business English 1 (CEFR A2)

    Course Description

    This 42-hour course is targeted at businesspeople and students of business English. Through a business oriented practice of the four skills-listening, speaking, reading, and writing- students will explore enhanced ways to use English with specialized language tools.

    Topics include a variety of business situations based on communication skills. Students will be giving presentations, participating in role plays to practice meetings, negotiations, telephoning, and networking.

    Course Objectives

    Following a communicative approach, students will develop essential grammar structure and language functions. At the end of this course, students will be able to:

    • Introduce themselves in a professional context (simple present, verb “to be”)
    • Talk about work and leisure (time expressions, leisure vocabulary, adverbs)
    • Explore problems at work and learn about problem solving strategies (adjectives, positive/negative statements in the present tenses)
    • Plan business trips and talk about clients’ entertainment Talk about products’ sales and customer services.
    • Give presentations

    Student Assessment

    You will be evaluated in a variety of ways throughout the course and receive feedback from the teacher to help you continue to improve your English language skills. Student assessment is based on the following criteria, on a scale of 100%. The passing grade is 75%.

    Attendance Policy

    Students cannot miss more than 8 hours (20%) of class time in order to pass the course. Late arrivals are counted towards the 8-hour limit. Students who are absent for two consecutive classes will receive a phone call from the EL Director to check on reasons for absences.

    Class Rules

    • Arrive to class on time.
    • Be prepared to participate in class activities.
    • Bring the class textbook and notebook to every class session.
    • Be sure your mobile phone is on silent. 
    • Do not bring food or drinks into class.
    • Complete all homework assignments before class. (This helps ensure that you progress more quickly!)
