Business English 3A (CEFR B1)
Course Description
This 42-hour course offers businesspeople and students of business a global approach to business English communication. The course covers units of great interest to everyone involved in international business. The common areas of the units include-but are not limited to- ways of improving one’s career, e-commerce, innovative works of business and corporate entertainment.
Students will build upon their confidence and fluency in using English language tools to communicate adequately through interactive speaking activities, presentations, writing tasks, and study of business cases.
Course Objectives
Following a student-centered approach, this course will improve students’ ability to communicate in English in a wide range of business situations and acquire the skills needed to succeed in the following business areas:
- Networking and business career development ( modals for ability and requests)
- Online commerce and negotiations techniques (expressions for buying and selling)
- Corresponding in a professional context (writing emails, letters..)
- Discussing ideas and writing reports (simple past, past continuous)
- Work related stress management and corporate entertainment (verb and noun combinations, present perfect)
Course Textbook: Market Leader Pre-intermediate, 3rd Edition: Units 1-6.
Student Assessment
You will be evaluated in a variety of ways throughout the course and receive feedback from the teacher to help you continue to improve your English language skills. Student assessment is based on the following criteria, on a scale of 100%. The passing grade is 75%.

Attendance Policy
Students cannot miss more than 8 hours (20%) of class time in order to pass the course. Late arrivals are counted towards the 8-hour limit. Students who are absent for two consecutive classes will receive a phone call from the EL Department to check on reasons for absences.
Class Rules
- Arrive to class on time.
- Be prepared to participate in class activities.
- Bring the class textbook and notebook to every class session.
- Be sure your mobile phone is on silent.
- Do not bring food or drinks into class.
- Complete all homework assignments before class. (This helps ensure that you progress more quickly!)
