    Level 6 Course (CEFR B1)

    Description

    This 42-hour course is an introduction to the pre-intermediate level of General English. In this class, students will develop more complex language structures through high interest topics such as life experiences and changes, plans for the future, travelling and cultural differences. This level will also reinforce student’s ability to communicate in a more international setting using English language.

    Course Objectives

    With an engaging learner-centered approach, students will be able to:

    • Talk about present, past events, and childhood memories (Simple Past Tense,"used to")
    • Describe changes in life (Simple Past and Present Perfect)
    • Discuss vacation plans and cultural differences (use of future tenses with "will" and "going to")
    • Express preferences, likes and dislikes
    • Make suggestions and polite requests (use of modals)
    • Talk about customs, traditions and the modern world of technology (complex sentences, phrasal verbs)

    Student Assessment

    You will be evaluated in a variety of ways throughout the course and receive feedback from the teacher to help you continue to improve your English language skills. Student assessment is based on the following criteria, on a scale of 100%. The passing grade is 75%.

    Attendance Policy

    Students cannot miss more than 8 hours (20%) of class time in order to pass the course. Late arrivals are counted towards the 8-hour limit. Students who are absent for two consecutive classes will receive a phone call from the EL Department to check on reasons for absences.

    Class Rules

    • Arrive to class on time.
    • Be prepared to participate in class activities
    • Bring the class textbook and notebook to every class session.
    • Be sure your mobile phone is on silent.
    • Do not bring food or drinks into class.
    • Complete all homework assignments before class. (This helps ensure that you progress more quickly!)
