Program Description
The 24-hour Writers’ Workshop will prepare you to craft quality responses to college- and university-application requests for personal statements, specialized prompts, and topical short answers.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Analyze application writing prompts to identify what admission officers want to assess
- Analyze authentic student essays from university applications to identify key rhetorical devices and message strengths and weaknesses
- Brainstorm topics that feature your best accomplishments and qualities, and link experiences to application prompts
- Outline and draft responses that follow personal academic essay conventions, fully respond to prompts, and observe parameters such as word count
- Incorporate feedback from teachers and peers to strengthen clarity of the message you want to communicate to admissions officers
- Edit, copy-edit and polish final work for submission to college/university admissions teams
