    Tunisia Conversation Program

    Level 5 Course (CEFR B1+)

    Description

    An interactive 42-hour conversation course designed for students whose language proficiency is CEFR level B1+. The course is designed to improve overall oral communication and build confidence in the participants through discussion, debate, grammar review focus points, building of vocabulary range, pronunciation, and improving listening comprehension.  

    The topics for the course include child genius, pushing boundaries, sleep patterns, and animal itelligence. 

    Each unit contains engaging and motivating lectures, authentic reading and listening, language skills with and graphics that provoke ideas and conversations.  

    Course Objectives

    Following a communicative approach, students will develop understanding of basic grammar structure and language functions. At the end of this course, students will be able to: 

    • follow discourses such as discussions, conversations, lectures, interviews and news show interest
    • recognize the importance of intonation, emphasis, and cadence 
    • unpack reported speech 
    • explore speaker assumptions

    Student Assessment

    You will be evaluated in a variety of ways throughout the course and receive feedback from the teacher to help you continue to improve your English language skills. Student assessment is based on the following criteria, on a scale of 100%. The passing grade is 75%.

    Attendance Policy

    Students cannot miss more than 8 hours (20%) of class time in order to pass the course. Late arrivals are counted towards the 8-hour limit. Students who are absent for two consecutive classes will receive a phone call from the EL Department to check on reasons for absences.

    Class Rules

    • Arrive to class on time.
    • Be prepared to participate in class activities
    • Bring the class textbook and notebook to every class session.
    • Be sure your mobile phone is on silent.
    • Do not bring food or drinks into class.
    • Complete all homework assignments before class. (This helps ensure that you progress more quickly!)
