This four-week course is designed to support learners from a stage in which they are productively challenged in developing—and learning how to develop—a greater vocabulary and facility with Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) to being more independent users of Arabic in a broader cultural context. Learners are exposed with level-appropriate materials to a range of topics important for the host country and the region, including contemporary social and cultural matters and a depth of cultural and historical context for understanding them. The course covers a wide range of literature, media, film, music, and arts more broadly chosen and developed by instructor to help students develop their abilities in extracting essential information and identity linguistic nuances.

The student-centered class environment supports learners to gain confidence and hone their spontaneity in real-life communicative situations. Teaching materials consist of faculty-selected materials from around the Arab world.
