    Young Elementary 3 (CEFR A1)

    Course Description

    Young Elementary 3 builds on the language development of the previous sessions. This course is story-based which is designed to initiate students into the world of the English language.   

    Course Objectives  

    In this class, students will increase their English language proficiency skills through the same family that the students met in the Happy House series , as well as  the introduction of creative adventures of a young boy, Colin, in Computerland and a robot called Quizzy that aids  students in self- assessing skills such as vocabulary range and pronunciation. Extended readings are added to the series to help students recognize functional English language structures, as well as an Activity Book that offers a wide range of aural and written exercises to reinforce what was taught in the classroom. Language structures such as Simple Present, “Wh” questions with the verb “Be”, possessive adjectives, there is / there are, adverbs of frequency, Present Continuous   and Simple Past are introduced in the units. Vocabulary on family, food, animals, places around town, toys, jobs and occupations, and weather will be covered.

    Student Assessment

    You will be evaluated in a variety of ways throughout the course and receive feedback from the teacher to help you continue to improve your English language skills. Student assessment is based on the following criteria, on a scale of 100%. The passing grade is 75%.

    Attendance Policy 

    Students cannot miss more than 8 hours (20%) of class time in order to pass the course. Late arrivals are counted towards the 8-hour limit. Students who are absent for two consecutive classes will receive a phone call from the EL Director to check on reasons for absences.

    Class Rules

    • Arrive to class on time.

    • Be prepared to participate in class activities.

    • Bring the class textbook and notebook to every class session.

    • Be sure your mobile phone is on silent and out of sight.

    • Do not bring food or drinks into class

    • Complete all home assignments before class. (This helps ensure that you progress more quickly!)
